It’s almost Christmas. I’ve been in Interio, a store selling home living stuff, and the sales persons were just aranging Christmas decorations into the boards!
At the moment I’m only at the moment to say goodbye to summer, and celebrating autumn with indian summer walks through Switzerland. But I am not really prepared for winter. Maybe I should start looking for Christmas presents for my beloved ones
Another wonderful example of terrific contrast on a website is shown by comparis.
Comparis is a platform to compare services like insurance-offers. As it comes out of this it’s one of their main goals to deal with data tables on their website. As you can see it is really easy to use the paging arrows. At some of my first visits i even didn’t recognize the paging function. And it doesn’t change on rollover.
Yesterday the Austrian parliament was elected. It wasn’t within the normal term, because the cabinet existing of the two main parties was struggeling. Now they had to pay the bill. Both big parties lost socialists as well as the conservatives. Interesting is too that the “green” party (ecologists) also lost. Disapointing is that out of this the two right winged parties FPÖ and BZÖ have won votes. I like they arguments of the liberals, which are positioned straight in the middle of the political scenery (including social responsibility) didn’t reach enough votes to get into the parliament 
Now, as it has been for ages, Austrian politicians are discussing what to learn from the elections and are struggling who will be able to form the new cabinet. And that’s the most anoying part of all!
Many times it’s a bad idea that websites, IT-systems are designed by programmers. Most times their implementation model doesn’t match the mental model of an application. The other side is that designers make nice visual things that don’t work neither from usability view nor from implementation view.
A “good” bad-example for that is the new quiz from Esprit. A flash game for winning vouchers or an iPod. You need to register for it. It’s so wonderful to fill out a form with textboxes consisting of grey font-color on grey background. The next highlight is the mixed tab-order you would never expect

Da fragt man sich schon, wie ein Phelps so viele Tage hintereinander beim Schwimmen die Goldmedaillen abräumt und ob das mit rechten Dingen zugehen kann? Klar ist er ein fitter Bursche, aber so abräumen. Er könnte den Rekord von 7 Goldmedaillen von Mark Spitz 1972 brechen. Na 1972 waren die Dopingkontrollen wohl auch noch nicht ausgereift. Und haben die Schweizer nur schlechtes Doping weil die SportlerInnen bisher immer nur Bronze-Medaillen einholen?
Der Tagesanzeiger ist seit Ende letzter Woche im neuen Kleid zu sehn. Wahrscheinlich eine Verbesserung zum vorhergehenden Design.
Generell kann ich sagen, dass ich es übersichtlicher finde, wenn auch Portale immer mit Masse zu kämpfen haben. Schön finde ich den konsequenten Einsatz der Linkfarbe auch auf Headlines. Ob es angesichts der Masse an headlines wertig aussieht mit Serifenschrift zu hantieren, bezweifle ich inzwischen. Vielleicht liegt es an der Kombination der Serifenschrift mit dem Blauton und der starken Fett-Betonung der Typo. Auf globus.ch (die Seite haben wir, Nose, gemacht ) finde ich die Serifenschrift wertiger, wohl auch wegen des subtiler eingesetzten Schriftschnittes.
Für meinen Geschmack hat die Hauptnavigation zu den Themen zu wenig Kraft und verliert sich unter dem “Zeitungskopf”. Ich bin mir auch nicht sicher ob im Medium Internet eine Zeitung ihrem Print-Pendant ähneln muss.
Interessant, mutig ist obwohl ich jetzt zwar nicht die grösste Bildschirmauflösung habe, aber auch keinen kleine Bildschirm, man sieht auf den ersten Blick nur ein Hauptthema und die Liste der letzten Nachrichten. Alle anderen Beiträge sind “over the fold”.
